Original oil painting on canvas, 32" x 30"

This still life captures a quiet moment in a sunlit interior. A single potted plant stretches upward, framed by angular countertops and a curious photo of horses leaning against the wall. The composition blends natural and constructed forms, evoking themes of care, fatigue, and slow growth.

Painted in oil with soft tonal shifts and fractured perspective, “Rooted and Reaching” invites reflection on the delicate balance between stillness and striving.

  • This piece began in a small kitchen apartment with almost no natural ligh: an interior shaped entirely by artificial illumination. The setup was an intentional curiosity: a potted plant reaching upward under fluorescent glow, a photograph of lush horse pastures resting near an outlet, and the faint geometry of a domestic space defined by shadow and reflection.

The contrast between organic life and its artificial setting gives the painting its quiet tensio: a meditation on longing, adaptation, and the strange beauty of greenery and open landscapes remembered from within a closed-off city apartment.
